Ayurvedic Treatment for Type 1 Diabeteswith Dr. Monga's
What is Type 1 Diabetes?
Type 1 diabetes is a chronic autoimmune condition where the immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. As a result, the body produces little to no insulin, a hormone essential for blood sugar regulation. It typically develops in childhood or adolescence but can occur at any age.
Risk Factor of Type 1 Diabetes
The risk of type 1 diabetes is mainly due to genetics (HLA-DR3/DR4 genes), family history of diabetes, childhood viral infections (such as rubella or enterovirus), vitamin D deficiency and autoimmune reactions (GAD65 antibodies) - especially at ages 4-6 years and 10-14 years, although it can occur at any age. Keep in mind that in 90% of cases there is no family history, and all these factors work together, the full process of which is still a matter of research. If you find any of these risk factors, it is advisable to consult a doctor.
Common Symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes
-
Increased Urination and Thirst
Frequent urination (polyuria) / Constant thirst (polydipsia) / Dry mouth
-
Extreme Hunger and Weight Loss
Increased appetite (polyphagia) / Unexplained weight loss / Feeling of emptiness despite eating
-
Fatigue and Weakness
Persistent tiredness / Muscle weakness / Difficulty concentrating
-
Vision and Ketoacidosis Symptoms

Causes
The exact cause of type 1 diabetes is unknown. Usually, the body's own immune system — which normally fights harmful bacteria and viruses — destroys the insulin-producing (islet) cells in the pancreas. Other possible causes include:
- Genetics
- Exposure to viruses and other environmental factors

Integrated Treatment Option for Type 1 Diabetes
Glucose is the body's main energy source, but in type 1 diabetes, the lack of insulin prevents its proper use, leading to high blood sugar. This results in energy depletion and complications if unmanaged.
- Glucose — a sugar — is a main source of energy for the cells that make up muscles and other tissues.
- Glucose comes from two major sources: food and the liver.
- Sugar is absorbed into the bloodstream, where it enters cells with the help of insulin.
- The liver stores glucose in the form of glycogen.
- When glucose levels are low, such as when you haven't eaten in a while, the liver breaks down the stored glycogen into glucose. This keeps glucose levels within a typical range. In type 1 diabetes, there's no insulin to let glucose into the cells. Because of this, sugar builds up in the bloodstream. This can cause life-threatening complications.
