HIV 1 & 2 Treatmentwith Dr. Monga's

What is HIV & Difference between HIV-1 and HIV-2?

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus that attacks the immune system, specifically the CD4 cells (T cells), which help the body fight infections. If left untreated, HIV can lead to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), a severe stage of HIV infection where the immune system becomes too weak to fight diseases.

There are two types of HIV HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is the most common, accounting for about 95% of cases worldwide, and is highly infectious with a faster progression rate. HIV-2, primarily found in West Africa, spreads more slowly and is less infectious. Both types require timely HIV treatment, but some standard medications may be less effective against HIV-2, requiring specialized care. With proper antiretroviral therapy (ART), people living with HIV can lead healthy lives by keeping the virus under control.

Early detection and timely treatment are crucial to control HIV and prevent its progression to AIDS. Get tested. Get treated. Book an Appointment

Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U)

"Undetectable" means that a person living with HIV has a very low viral load (amount of virus in the blood), so low that it cannot be detected in standard blood tests. When someone reaches undetectable status, they cannot transmit HIV to their partners.

To achieve this, consistent HIV treatment (ART) is essential, which helps lower the viral load and increases CD4 count (immune system cells that fight infections). A higher CD4 count means a stronger immune system and better overall health.

At Dr. Monga Clinic, we ensure the right treatment and care to help you achieve an undetectable status and live a healthy, fulfilling life.

HIV Tests and Treatment?

If you suspect an HIV infection or have been exposed to a risk (such as unprotected sex, shared needles, or contact with infected blood), it is crucial to get tested at the right time for accurate results. If exposure has occurred within 72 hours, consult a doctor immediately for PEP treatment to prevent infection. For early detection, the HIV RNA PCR Test is the most accurate and can detect the virus as early as 10-14 days after exposure by identifying HIV's genetic material. 2-4 weeks after exposure, the 4th Generation Antigen/Antibody Test can be taken, as it detects both the p24 antigen and antibodies, making it a reliable option for early-stage detection. To confirm HIV status, the HIV Antibody Test (ELISA or Rapid Test) should be done 3 months after exposure, as by this time, antibodies have fully developed. Each test has a different purpose—RNA PCR Test detects the virus's RNA, Antigen/Antibody Test checks for both the viral protein and immune response, while the Antibody Test confirms the presence of antibodies.
